PUP, The Potentially Unwanted Program.

The "potentially unwanted program" or PUP, is a piece of software that downloads with another type of software that the user downloads, it might a program or an application. PUP is similar to malware in the sense that it will cause problems once downloaded and installed. This term was coined by McAfee to avoid labeling programs as malware. The difference between malware and PUP is that the user accepts to download it. When the user downloads the program from Internet and "forgets to read" the agreement to download, the user will never realize about the PUPs that were downloaded.

The PUPs have undesirable effects over the computer. Once downloaded, one PUP will be able to run several processes in the background, slowing the machine and its processes or might display different sorts of advertisement. The purpose behind this applications is unknown until they are installed and begin to work. PUPs are downloaded and installed along with other apps/software and the users are not aware of these additional pieces of software since they did not read the terms of installation.

BoBrowser also known as Ads by BoBrowser, BoBrowser virus… What is BoBrowser?

 
BoBrowser is an add-on for the browser, and we do not recommend it. It does not even resemble a virus or malware, but there are many factors for it to be considered a PUP. It is able to infiltrate the computer without the user realizing it. This is because it uses a deceptive method of distribution of bundling, that allows it to infiltrate the computer through different free downloads. BoBrowser was created by ClaraLabSoftware and "sold" as capable to protect your PC against malware, also to accelerate your browsing capabilities and improve downloads, to keep your information safe and to update and keep your browsing preferences.

Useful, isn't it?

 

Specially when all these services are free. Unfortunately, this is another adware that has been created with the intention to promote commercial content and to make money. For it achieve this, it will fill browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer) with pop-up ads, banners and text messages that will make you sick. besides, this add-on can deceive the user to download suspicious programs because “Ads by BoBrowser” can include predetermined links and redirect the search to different websites (MyStart Search.com). DO NOT GO to these websites since you may accidentally click on other infected links and instead of getting more adware, you might end up with real malware or a virus. In addition to this, the privacy issues must always be present since BoBrowser virus might try to steal your personal information. Basically, this adware is more interested in the user's online activities and can use this compiled information to fulfill its mission. It even tricks the users by imitating Google Chrome's appearance.

How?

 

BoBrowser has an official website and there are other sites for downloads; nevertheless, we do not recommend to download it since it is useless for the user. Unfortunately, it is possible for BoBrowser to get in your computer without a direct download. It usually travels in a bundle with other freeware. So far we know that BoBrowser travels with MySafeProxy, SpeedChecker, Snap.do and Final Media Player. In order to prevent the infiltration of these programs, always choose the Advance or Custom Installation option, just to really know what you are installing.

El "programa potencialmente indeseado" o PUP en inglés, es software que se descarga junto a otro tipo de software que el usuario este descargando, puede ser un programa o una aplicación. PUP es similar al malware en el sentido de que causará problemas una vez descargado e instalado. Este término fue acuñado por McAfee para evitar etiquetar programas como malware. La diferencia entre el malware y PUP es que el usuario accede a descargarlo. Cuando el usuario descarga un programa de Internet y "olvida" leer el acuerdo para descargar, el usuario nunca se enterara sobre los programas no deseados que se descargaron.

Los PUPs tienen efectos indeseables sobre la computadora. Una vez descargados, un PUP podrá correr varios procesos sin que el usuario se dé cuenta, alentando la maquina en el proceso o puede mostrar distintos anuncios publicitarios. El único propósito de estas aplicaciones es desconocido hasta que se instalan y empiezan a funcionar. Los PUPs se descargan e instalan con aplicaciones/software y los usuarios están inconscientes de estas instalaciones adicionales porque no leen los acuerdos.

¿BoBrowser también conocido como Ads by BoBrowser, BoBrowser virus… ¿Que es BoBrowser?

 

BoBrowser es un "add-on" para el navegador que no recomendamos. Ni siquiera parece virus o malware, pero hay muchos factores por los cuales es considerado como PUP. Es capaz de infiltrar la computadora sin que el usuario se dé cuenta. Esto es gracias a que emplea un método de distribución de "bundling" engañoso, que permite infiltrar la computadora a través de diferentes descargas gratuitas. BoBrowser fue creado por ClaraLabSoftware y "vendido" como capaz de proteger tu PC contra malware, así como de acelerar la navegación y descargas, mantener la información segura y actualizar y mantener todas las preferencias de navegación.
¿Útil, no?

Especialmente cuando dichos servicios se ofrecen gratuitamente. Desafortunadamente, se trata de otro adware que se ha sido creado con la intención de promover contenido comercial y de ganar dinero. Para logra esto, llena los navegadores (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer) con anuncios pop-up, banners y anuncios de texto que te hartaran. Además, este add-on puede engañar al usuario para descargar programas sospechosos porque “Ads by BoBrowser” puede incluir links predeterminados y puede redirigir a ciertos otros sitios (MyStart Search.com). NO vaya a estos sitios ya que accidentalmente puede hacer click en otros links infectados y en lugar de instalar otro adware, puede terminar con malware o un virus. Además de esto, las cuestiones de privacidad deben estar siempre presentes ya que BoBrowser virus puede tratar de robar información personal. Básicamente, está interesado en las actividades que el usuario realiza en línea y puede utilizar esta información recopilada para cumplir con sus propósitos. Incluso confunde a los usuarios al imitar la apariencia de Google Chrome.

¿Cómo lo hace?

BoBrowser se promueve en su sitio oficial y otros sitios de descargas; sin embargo, no recomendamos descargarlo porque no tiene alguna utilidad para el usuario. Desafortunadamente, se puede meter en la computadora sin haberlo descargado directamente. Viaja típicamente en un bundle con otros freewares. De momento se sabe que BoBrowser viaja con MySafeProxy, SpeedChecker, Snap.do y Final Media Player. Para prevenir la infiltración de estos programas, siempre escoja la opción Avanzada o Custom de instalación para investigar qué es exactamente lo que se está descargando e instalando.
